Preserved Seafood
Takahama is blessed with delicious fresh seafood. There are also many preserved seafood delicacies which are a great way to enjoy the flavors of Wakasa at home, too. Enjoy a wide variety of dried seafood, preserved mackerel (heshiko) and rice-fishcakes (kome kamaboko).

Traditional delicacies
Fukui prefecture has always been praised for its rice quality, and Takahama has lots of varieties to choose from. Visit the local store 'Senariya', which produces its own original soy sauce made with traditional brewing techniques, and their own miso paste (moromi) seasoned with the Japanese citrus yuzu. Another local delicacy are "Ecchan's pickles", made from her home-grown vegetables and lightly seasonal with salt.

Fruits of the Forest
Takahama's abundant nature offers delicious fruit throughout the year. "Kamakura grapes" are a rare variety of grape grown in the Kamakura area (Uchiura), and are prized for there delicious flavor and succulent texture. There are also 2 strawberries farms where you can go strawberry picking, or simply purchase some of the many strawberrys they have on offer.

Takahama has lots of great little bakeries that have enjoyed their customers patronage for generations. Many customers will travel to Takahama from other towns to buy popular products, such as the award-winning "Wakasa Rusk," which comes in a variety of sweet and savory flavors.

"Takahama Kinare" is a local farmer's market selling fresh vegetables and many other local goods and products. ’Akafunboya’ souvenirs
Takahama's mascot ’Akafunboya’ was created in 1988 to promote the town of Takahama (Fukui) to the whole country. He is a baby wearing a red (akai) traditional Japanese loincloth (fundoshi), which is how he earned his name.
